Patriots Equal Best Victory Run Since Brady Era with Triumph Over New York Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five scores in the present year
New England equaled their best victory streak from the Brady era as they beat AFC East rivals the Jets 27-14 in the NFL
Rookie Henderson was the standout with three scores as the Patriots secured an eighth straight win for the first time since iconic QB Brady's closing campaign with the team in the 2019 season
Quarterback Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
The win increases the Patriots advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York at the foot after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The opposing team had taken the lead at Gillette Stadium with QB Fields scoring a five-yard touchdown to conclude the Jets' initial series
But the home team answered in the second period as Henderson scored two short rushing scores before the running back hauled in a throw from Maye at the back of the endzone halfway into the third quarter to push the score to 21-7
"That was a big time for him stepping up, and it's been great for him to keep gaining experience," Maye said of the rookie. "He wants to be outstanding."
Justin Fields threw to Metchie late in the third quarter to close the gap for the Jets but Borregales converted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the Patriots closed out the win
